There is no students program this summer. If any institution is interested in hosting a student's program (PTTS )  please contact us ptts@gmail.com. Please mention also convenient period and how much financial and  logistic support they can offer.

About Physics Training and Talent Search (PTTS) programs.

Under PTTS ,we  conduct training programs for students and teachers. The student program is "Physics Training and Talent Search" and for teachers it is "Physics Teachers Training Program (PTTP)" .

The objective is to provide a platform for motivated students  and teachers to interact with peers and experts in the field through active learning methodology. To identify talented students and nurture their talent for a research career in Physics. We also network with motivated teachers.

In recent times this program is done partnering with the   Infosys Sciene Foundation and Azim Premji University.

PHYSICS TEACHERS TRAINING PROGRAMME

Our past activities

  • 1. PTTS program: A three-week training program   for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students  in partnership with the INFOSYS SCIENCE FOUNDATION.
  • 2. Mini PTTS: One-week program
  • 3. Discussion meeting on Experimental program  of PTTS, in association with IISER Pune.
  • 4.  An online workshop on "Methods of active learning for Physics teachers", with the resource persons associated with Nobel Laureate Prof.Carl.Weiman (Stanford University), in association with the Birla Science Center (Hyderabad).

The seventh PTTS program concluded recently.

Active learning is gaining popularity in western countries. Interview with Carl Weiman, Nobel Laurate in Physics.

Teaching will be interactive in nature, where students will be encouraged to think, ask questions, critically examine the concepts and apply.Unlike in traditional lectures, in this programme classes will not be in the conventional chalk and talk. Students will be asked questions and will be encouraged to ask questions, in the lectures. They will be encouraged to discuss the solutions among themselves in the tutorials with the teacher playing more the role of a facilitator.

The experimental physics course will be structured so as to make students think of how to propose and design an experiment, and to identify errors in obtaining and interpreting the data. They will not be given a pre-designed experiment with instructions.

Though the content of the course is by and large traditional, the goal will be to train them to think, as a physicist.

To bring to focus the novelty in teaching methodology, a set of suggested guidelines for teachers has been prepared for both theory and experimental courses. which will be shared with the resource persons. We believe that this teaching methodology, in the theory courses and especially in the experimental course, will have a larger impact on the philosophy and training in physics education beyond PTTS.

Other Programs

There was an online workshop on"ACTIVE LEARNING FOR PHYSICS TEACHERS" between March-4,2021 to March-7, 2021 with a welcome message by Prof Carl Weiman (Nobel Prize winner) and the resource persons:

Dr. Georg Rieger, Dept. of Physics and Former Dept. Director of the Carl Wieman Science Education Initiative, University of British Columbia

Dr. Eric Burkholder, Dept. of Physics, Stanford University.

About 35 teachers participated in the workshop.

There was a 2 day discussion meeting on "Experimental Program of PTTS" at IISER ,Pune on Nov-4& 5 2019.

There 23 particpants across the country and had a productive discussion on suggestions for  potential experiments for future program.
